Our August online auction begins 8:00 AM Central time on Saturday August 11th and ends at 10:00 PM Central time on August 25th. Lots of great items to bid on. You can check it out NOW at www.biddingforgood.com/rustichollowshelter but you won't be able to register or bid until Saturday August 11th. Join the bidding and help us raise $$$ for the special felines at Rustic Hollow Shelter.
C & W’s Rustic Hollow’s annual OPEN HOUSE will be held on SUNDAY, AUGUST 12th, from 10AM-4PM. If you haven’t had the “Rustic Hollow” experience, then this is the place to be on August 12th...unless of course, you are at the Iowa State Fair...but hey, take a break from the fair and visit C & W’s Rustic Hollow anyway!! Rustic Hollow is the largest special needs feline sanctuary in Iowa and much of the NE. Our 250-300 feline residents live comfortably, cage-free, and have TV’s with ‘catsitter’ videos to watch and screened, secure, outdoor catios and playrooms as well. A caregiver team of 14 care for the felines daily and our many volunteers help in a myriad of other ways. Visitors are always welcomed, by appointment.
Our thrift store, The Scratching Post Thrift ‘n Gift at 216 Main Street in Nashua will also be open from 10AM-4PM on the 12th. Email me for directions (email@example.com). You will need directions or physical address for GPS. Our staff have been busy getting the felines ready and also want me to tell you that they will be selling Walking Tacos all day along with drinks and will be holding a bake sale so they can help raise some money for the Rustic Hollow furs too. Lunch items will be available in Bradley’s House, our main building. We have a truly fantastic staff. I am very proud of the work they have done, taking pride in their building, and grooming the landscaping too. They take it upon themselves to get things ready and I could not be happier with their care of the animals.
Please greet each of our animal care specialist in each building you visit and thank them for the hard work caring for the felines daily needs and giving them TLC. Our staff is very much appreciated and you will see why when you meet them. Dress is definitely casual-jeans or slacks preferable, as the kitties will be anxious to greet you and may stretch up on your legs (or be on your back if you lean over). Of course, sitting on the floor remedies that and you can have a kitty pile for hours. You can start in any of our six buildings/homes you want and be sure to visit Wanda at our log home where some very senior and hospice kitties reside with us. There is a creek separating our log home from the other 5 sanctuary buildings and a walking bridge between them. You can park in either driveway. Please bring friends and family and come visit the cats for an hour or for a longer stay. Some people spend a great deal of the day with kitties in each of the buildings and that is encouraged too. I will be in Bradley’s House primarily and we want you to sign our guest book that day too, check out the CW T-shirts that will be for sale and get your Walking Taco anytime during the day. If you have not been here before, now is the time for you to visit and see what we are about. If you cannot make it that day, you are welcome to visit any day of the week between 10AM and 1PM, our visiting hours. Spread the word. We’d love to see you on the 12th!!! Check out our website at www.rustichollowshelter.org for more information about our work.
Waverly Pizza Ranch Fund Raiser 2018
What a great group of volunteers and supporters who came to Waverly Pizza Ranch tonight (May 16). It was wonderful to see those of you who have rarely missed one of our events. Loved visiting with all of you. And, to those who bused tables-kudos to you Angie Minnaert, Liz Wegner, Keisha Stough and Dannielle VanBrocklin. You did a great job. Thank you also for talking to people and answering questions. I may be replaced. LOL. (Not too soon though) LOL Thank you Connie for picking me up and volunteering tonight as well and for Annette Wood who brought her family and stayed with us awhile too. It is appreciated. It was a very good fund raiser for us this year AND It. Was. The. FIRST. Year in the past four years without Rain. Hail. Thunderstorms (severe). and Tornadoes! The first sunny day for our event in four years. It was wonderful. Thank you everyone. And to those who could not come tonight and still sent their 'pizza orders' to us, Thank all of you as well.
Furnace Moving Fund Request. Calling all Rustic Hollow fans.
If you can contribute any amount to our 'furnace moving fund' it would be greatly appreciated.
Our staff discovered this week, after all the rain we have been getting, that the sump pump which keeps the furnace in the basement of the Kitty Kottage dry….. stopped working.
Our plumbing/heating friend came out immediately but it was too late. The water had gotten far enough up on the base the furnace sits on and went beyond it. The circuit board and motor need to be replaced. A decision was made to remove the furnace from the basement and put it on the first floor of the 2-story Kitty Kottage, which will solve the problem of water damaging it. We will still have to pump water out in the spring, but if a sump pump fails, it will not cause damage to the furnace. There is a water pressure tank that supplies water to several buildings also in the basement and that will be raised high enough it will be safe from future water problems.
Moving the furnace to the first floor will also require it to be enclosed by a screen ‘cage’ to prevent the cats from getting near the furnace and causing any (water-loll) damage to it.
We need to raise as many $$$$ as fast as we can, so we can get this project completed before we need the furnace for our air conditioning.
Please share. No amount is too small. you can donate $$$ to our paypal addy which is: firstname.lastname@example.org or mail to PO Box 67, Nashua, IA 50658. It is appreciated.

We had a ‘Fun’ ‘Fun’draiser for you this February
This Fund Raiser is an all year fund raiser too: You can send a donation 'in honor of' or 'in memory of' anytime during the year. It will be noted in our newsletters.
Our February Fund raiser Valentine Tree 2018 was a very successful fund raiser. Here is the info. You can honor a person or pet with you donation to our perpetual valentine tree. Or send a donation 'in memory' as well.
Dear friends… All of the furkids, staff, Board of Directors & volunteers at Rustic Hollow wish you a great New Year in 2018 and a Happy Valentine’s Day too. Marigold, Gussy, Grandma Hurley, Cricket, Sookie &Liz), Tippy (& Cathie), Cornell and ALL the R.H. furs have a purrfectly pawsitively fun fundraiser so you can help them raise some $$$ for our Valentine Treats (and Carmen says our vet work too..ugh)…. but here are some ways you can share the love with others and with some of us very special furs at Rustic Hollow.
Our Valentine Tree
Remember a special pet or person on our ‘Valentines Tree.’ It is bare and waiting for you to fill it with hearts. On each heart we will place the name of the person or pet you wish to honor or remember and your name will also be on the heart.
Honor your pet or a person in your life for only $10 per honoree.
Your gift will help fill our tree with hearts and help with medical care for many felines at Rustic Hollow.
For $20 (each) we will not only place a heart on our Valentine Tree, we will send a Valentine to the person you are honoring. So be sure to have mailing addresses for any valentines you would like sent out. And the name’s of the pet(s) or persons you are honoring.
Send as many as you wish for just $10 per person or pet... We want to fill our tree(s) this Valentine’s Day. LAST year it took TWO Trees to get all of your Valentine honorees on. Let’s do that again.
~~ 2018 Rustic Hollow Calendars ~~
We also still have Rustic Hollow 2018 Calendars. First come first serve. Calendars are still $30 but that also includes shipping. Order yours now. The year is still young. So from all of us at Rustic Hollow, Happy Valentine’s Day.
We look forward to your Valentines for our tree. You may also make your own heart and send it for us to place on the tree. Be sure to include WHO the heart is for and have Your name on it too. You can also write what you want on the heart.
Marigold & Gussy CRICKET
CORNELL & volunteer Anne Myles
On 6-10-17, Wanda and I and Connie Phillis and Anne Myles went to Waterloo for the Cedar Valley Roller Derby last home game of the season. The Brawlers and their Junior team, the Mad Catters, are all animal lovers and particularly cat lovers. Part of the team visited R. Hollow in May and spent a long afternoon loving on the cats. We were the organization chosen for their last home game fund raiser and we truly appreciate the invite and the wonderful donations we received from their raffle and from the spectators who enjoyed the night. The Brawlers won big on their last home game against a Wisconsin team. And the Mad Catters debuted during half time. It was a 'fun' "Fun"draiser for Rustic Hollow. Pictured below from Left: Volunteer Connie Phillis, Anne Myles, supporter and volunteer who joined us for the evening, and Wanda Orric, the "W" in C& W's Rustic Hollow Shelter.
